Rameswaram is a small island in the Gulf of Mannar. It is an important pilgrim center. Lord Rama on return from Lanka stopped over here first for a thanksgiving to the Gods. The Ramanathaswamy temple here is well-known for its massive corridors. The sea water in front of the temple is sacred and is known as Agnitheertham. Mandapam (18 km) connects Rameswaram with the mainland. Boat ride to Kurusadi island is taken out from here. Kurusadi and other islands (23 km) are studies for biologists.

Kanyakumari is at the southernmost tip of India and its where three seas meet: the Bay of Bengal, Indian Ocean and Arabian sea. Pilgrims come here to bathe in the sacred waters and to worship the goddess Devi Kanya, an incarnation of Shiva's wife,who conquered demons and secured freedom for the world.

400m off the coast, in a rocky island, stands a memorial dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, who meditated here in 1892 before setting out to America to spread a message of social justice.

Adjacent to the Vivekananda memorial stands a 133ft statue of Thiruvalluvar, the honored Tamil poet, who 2000 years ago created Tirukkural, acclaimed as the cultural bible of the Tamils due to its non-sectarian and universal outlook.

A very old city, Madurai is situated on the banks of Vaigai river. The legendary Meenakshi temple and the ancient part of the city are on the southern bank. The Thirumalai Nayak Mahal, the palace, is another sight in the town. An everyday sound-and-light show lays focus on the history of the Nayaks. Tamil epic Silappathikkaram is also illustrated in the program. Vandiyur Mariamman Teppakulam is a temple tank.

A sleepy, beautiful hill station situated in the Palani Hills, 120 km from Madurai, is Kodaikkanal. It has a star-shaped, man-made lake called Kodai lake. Kodai has an observatory from where one can observe the stars. Vaigai dam, Shola Falls, Silver Cascade (8 km) Kumbakkarai Falls (65 km), Berijam lake (21 km), Perumal peak, Kukkal Caves (40 km), and Dolmen's Circle (22 km) are some of the sites that may be visited. Palani temple (44 km) is a pilgrimage center. It is one of the six abodes of Lord Subramanya.

Located in the Nilgiris known for its fragrant tea, Ooty or Ootacamund or Udhagamandalam's major attractions are Botanical Gardens, Ooty Lake, Mini Garden, Rose Garden, Government Museum, Deer Park, Doddabetta, Hindustan Photo Films and wooded blades.The lake was artificially dug in 1824. On way to the Queen of Hill Stations from Coimbatore lies Coonoor. It is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiris at an altitude of 1858 mts. Mudumallai wildlife reserve was the first sanctuary in south India. The terrain is extremely varied with hills, valleys, ravines, watercourses and swamps. The vegetation comprises of tropical moist deciduous forests, dry deciduous forests and scrub forests. Langur, bonnet macaque, tiger, leopard, wild dog, hyena, jackal, sloth bear, elephants, gaur, sambar, spotted deer, Indian muntjac, mouse deer, wild boar, rodent and flying squirrel are part of the wildlife in Mudumalai.

The main attraction of the tourists in Yelagiri is to enjoy boating in beautiful and smallish artificial lake famous as Punganoor Lake. Velvan Temple is other prime attraction for tourists. This is a temple dedicated to Lord Murugan situated atop a hillock, with a giant statue of Gadothgajan in front. Jalagamparai Waterfalls is a lovely waterfall about an hour's trek from Yelagiri has been created by the Attaru River, which flows through the Yelagiri hills. A city of historical importance. It is situated on the banks of Kaveri river. Places of interest: Rock Fort: The 83 mts high rock is about 3,800 million years old.Third century BC inscriptions can be found on the top. The rock has been witness to many a war. There is a temple on the top called Uchipillaiyar Koil. Below, one can see Pallava cave temples wherein there are 6th and 7th century sculptures. Nearesrt pilgrim centers are Srirangam (7 km ), Thiruvanaikaval-Jambukeswarar temple (8 km),Vayaloor (8 km) and Samayapuram (20 km).
